Ah ! Good old fashioned Springers, not so common now but worth their weight in gold ! 20 years ago and more any Springer that won a trial was of a large stamp, nowadays you sometimes have a problem identifying them from Cockers :S

Coming from Manchester are you a United or City fan ?

Thanks for introducing yourself, I am hoping more will do the same eventually so we can build a small community on here.

Truth be told I am a Springer man as well although at the moment I have a fairly motlry selection of dogs.

I must say though that if I were going Wildfowling on a regular basis I might want a Lab or retriever for that, Springers get to cold ;-)

Welcome to the forum, we are very new but I am hopefull that more people will stop by and say hello in the next few months.

I must confess to never having heard of a Braque d'auvergne however having Googled it I have definitely seen them around, nice looking dogs !

Good luck with the hunt for a springer, once you have had a good one there is no substitute of any breed ;)

Hello folks,

Stumbled upon this nice looking site while researching/planning the purchase of a part/full trained ESS for my husband. We live near Brecon, Wales with a pig, some ferrets, many chickens, a pony and fluctuating numbers of kids and dogs, depending on whose we are babysitting at the time

We are Flat Coat lovers at heart, but even so sometimes a springer would be useful!

Also very interested to know if anyone has seen anyone in the UK with a Braque d'auverge. Old and now rare french pointing breed, black and white with ticking. Very sleek and much smaller than english or GSP's. Surely I can't be the only mad woman with a passion for them? If you want to check them out google some images. I hope to get a website built soon with some info and as a way of getting in touch with any other people hunting for them. Rumour has it that one was spotted many years ago on a grouse shoot in Scotland, but i've had no luck in pinning it down.

Look forward to reading up on the posts here..

Best wishes,

Hi Caroline,

You guessed it - he is called Merlin! But he is a Golden Retriever rather than lab - the snapshot shows him at just 12 weeks or so, and he looked like a rather fluffy lab! He is quite short coated and is now very dark compared to the pet goldens you see which are often almost white - he is almost fox red - fortunately the keeper where we beat has a no ground game rule!! I am considering getting another one as he is so good around both the house and when working - that is what led me here, but no goldens on offer yet :(

Hi Caroline,

Thanks for coming on and saying hello, sorry about your losses !

I got my first cocker over a year ago, I am a springer man, my god ! What dogs they are, if I had known what I know now I would have left him there ;-) Only joking ! He is actually a bit special but a real handful.

Nic, as soon as I know how I will change you to moderator if I may ? Hope you are well !
I'm Caroline and have one working cocker (unfortunately lost my lab in Nov and another working cocker in April, so not been a great time here)
